More cleaning and more bad news.  I took the crank in to Barron's to be ground, and they told me that the head we took in was cracked.  So they are going to send it to Nevada, Iowa to be welded, which will cost me another $285 plus shipping.  Then, when I took the generator apart, it doesn't look too good, so I would bet I'll have to get a new one.  I'm not sure about the starter yet.

I got more parts cleaned, and even painted the fan blade and pulley.

Here's the commutator/brushes end of the generator.  This end doesn't look too bad, but...

...the armature doesn't look too good. and I haven't been able to get the other end off the armature.  I soaked it with Liquid Wrench and will try again tomorrow or Wednesday.
