Well, here we go...we're getting into the fun stuff now! We started rebuilding the engine today! Everything went exactly as planned, and in about 5 hours of work, we got the crank, cam, and pistons installed. We plasti-gaged all the bearings and they were right on the money, so I need to call Barron's and thank them for a job well done. I got all the other machine work back Thursday (rocker assembly rebuild, replace ring gear, resurface flywheel, and replace pilot bushing in rear of crankshaft). (Expenses) Either tomorrow or Sunday we're going to install the oil pump and the timing gear. From that point on, it'll be to a point that I feel comfortable doing the rest of the work myself, so I can work at it as I have time.
Here's the block on the workbench, ready to take the crankshaft.
Another view of the block before installing the crank.
Here's all the parts we'll need, laid out and ready to go.
Here's the block, mounted on the engine stand, crank installed.
Here's the pistons, with rings and connecting rods installed, ready
to be slipped into the block.
Here it is...crank and pistons installed.
