ebay 1223 clock detail
Purchased on Ebay 2/1/24 for 20.50 plus 19.54 S&H.
Clock arrived 2/7/24 Well packed looks as shown in pics.
Small chip in wood frame on mid-left leaf. Maybe cover with a putty stick? My #9 putty stick was okay. In hindsight, after doing the pendulum maybe a dab of cognac would have been a better solution.
Bellows need re-paper. Chains quite dirty. Either made of steel or brass plated. Movement is only marked Made in Germany and 100/171. Movement is quite oily. Lift wires are actually attached with a tight loop rather than a hook.
Looks like only parts needed are weights and pendulum.
02/10/24, cleaned movement in home solution. Seems to move freely. Cleaned chains and hand nuts with CLR.
2/12/24. Clock runs well without bellows in. With the way lift wires were connected didn’t want to remove them so tied off with twist tie to allow them to move but not interfere with pendulum.
2/20/24 Re-papered bellow tops and re-installed. Stain used on unfinished pendulum is golden oak as base and cognac for leaf tips. 2 light coats of satin polyurethane matched to clock.
2/26/24 Will not keep running with 420g weight. Made a can weight of 500g and runs with no issue.
3/6/24 Made new better weights with spice bottles and fishing weights. Installed right bellows. Right hand lift wire was hitting pendulum during call and stopping clock. Also, the call mechanism locked. Bent lift wire slightly away from pendulum and bent lever slightly down. Ran overnight with no issues and called correctly.
3/10/24 After taking a video, the top bellow lift lever goes first and should go to the right side. Removed the movement to allow to swap them. Both lift levers needed to be bent up a fair amount to get the call correct.
3/14/24 Took clock down and polished and put away until I get weights. Pendulum is close to set, but still fast. According to an NAWCC post, the 100/171 movement (Cuckoo Clock Company) was not made after the 70’s.
4/1/24. Received weights from Timesavers. Put back on stand for final test and time adjustment. Right side lift wire fell off. Rolled it over and seems to attach better and hold.
4/10/24. After final adjustments and getting pendulum set, clock is done. Listed on Ebay for $80.00 and Mercari for $100.
