duffner clock detail

Ordered 11/23/23 Paid 13.00 plus S&H to total 35.48

Uses two 1500g weights. 8 day Herr movement.

Ordered hands, bellows and pendulum from Ronell.

Stained case with Minwax cognac and painted frame and top with custom brown Ace paint.

Installed new parts. Could not get Herr hands or hand nuts. Got round hole hands and squared the minute hole with an exacto. Used brass washers as spacers and a brass knurled nut to secure them.

Fashioned lift wires. Made test wire from steel wire spool for ease of bending. Once proper length was found, made final wire from music wire.

Only one top clip and left side of roof a bit broken. Put a small nail in other side with head cutoff and matched a hole in the top to fit. Made a wire hook to help secure top to roof.

Door was opening and closing on each chirp of hour rather than staying open for duration. Learned from dperry video of a Herr how closure movement works. Oil on the metal post that is to catch on the lever as well as the lever pivot fixed it.

Hands need to be secured for time arbor to spin. However, over tightening will cause the clock to stop and under will not move the hands. For a clock without hand nuts, a 5mm is needed for the hour hand side (but must be thin to allow space) and a 2.5 mm to secure the minute hand. If a 5mm thin enough cannot be found, 3 washers will work as a spacer.
