Several more hours worth of work with just a little progress. Tonight I removed the oil pump, timing chain, gears, and tensioner, front plate, and the 1st and 4th cylinder pistons and connecting rods. I loosened the caps for the 3 main bearings and one of the bolts on the connecting rod bearing caps on the 2nd and 3rd cylinder rods. Because of the fact that the crankshaft is still seized up, and because of the position in which it's seized, I can't get a wrench on the other bolt on these rod ends. But with one bolt on each loosened, I can tell that these bearings aren't seized. And I know it's not the front main, and I don't think it's the center main. And it's not the piston in the 2nd cylinder. That leaves the piston in the 3rd cylinder, and the rear main bearing. I tried running the bolt all the way into the front of the crank and hitting it with the impact wrench for a while to see if it would break loose, but no luck. So I ended the night by squirting some penetrating fluid around the sides of the pistons from the bottom side, then I turned the motor over and filled the 3rd cylinder with penetrating fluid from the top.
I also haven't been able to get the distributor drive out of the block.
There is a sleeve that goes into the block after the distributor drive
is in place and holds the drive in place. The distributor shaft then
inserts into this sleeve and the end of it engages with the drive in the
block. Well, I can't get the sleeve out of the block. I can
make it turn by tapping on it with a hammer, but I haven't been able to
get it to slide out yet. This is keeping the camshaft from being
removed, but it is loose.
