I got the main bearing caps off by threading a 1/2-20 bolt into the threaded hole in the top of them, with a large 1/2" drive socket over it (to provide a larger surface to pry on), then prying up from both sides.  They came right out.  At that point, I was ready to remove the crank, which I couldn't do with the block on the engine stand, so I called Randy and he agreed to come out and help me out.  When he got here we removed all bolts from the block including the oil pump bolts, then lifted the block off the stand and set it on the floor on a piece of thick cardboard.  We then removed the back plate and lifted the crank out.  Randy agreed to take the crank and cam home and clean them up and mic them.

Randy brought back the cylinder head from this engine, and it certainly looks to us as though it's cracked.  So we decided to use the head off the other B and tore it down to prepare for machining.  I called Barron Motor Supply earlier today and got the following prices for their services:

Clean block:  $28.50
Magna flux block:  $35.00
Bore block:  $75.00
Magna flux head:  $35.00

Randy helped me lift the block into the back of my van, and we set the head in there, so I'll try to get them down to Barron's tomorrow.  It would be nice if they had everything done by the weekend, but we'll see.  In the meantime, there is still some cleaning that needs to be done.
