What a great day!  The weather was incredible...mid 60s in the first week of March.  If I hadn't been working on the car, I'm sure I'd have been on the golf course.

Randy came over this morning and we removed the entire front suspension, which sounds like a huge task, but it's really quite easy on this car.  Just disconnect the brake lines, unbolt the steering knuckle, remove two nuts on the top of the frame members on each side, and pull it out!  Once we got it out we set it on top of a garbage can and proceeded to tear it apart.  We found that it will need new kingpins, so I'll order what they call a "major" suspension rebuild kit, which is on sale right now.  I also need new lower control arms for the right side.  The pivot holes on one end were elongated to about twice their normal size, and the pin that went through them was gouged pretty bad.  This thing must have been a handful to drive!

When we had that all disassembled, Randy removed the heater box for me, so now I can get to work on cleaning that up and getting it painted.

Here's the entire suspension assembly, waiting to be torn apart.

Here's the rear of the right side...

...the rear of the left side...

...the front of the left side...

...and the front of the right side.

Here's the concoction we (read that "Randy") devised to keep the spring compressed while disassembling the suspension.

The steering assembly.

Close-up of the rack.

Here's the kingpin assembly from the right side.

Another view, with the kingpin partially extracted.
