I finally got the bake calipers cleaned up. I'm going to drop them off at Randy's place to see what he thinks of them...the bores for the pistons have some pitting due to the sludge that sat in them for 15 years, and I'm not sure if they need some sort of honing. Also, one of the pistons has some gouges along the outer edge.
Barron's called today and said they are done with the swivel axles, so I'll stop by there tomorrow to pick them up, and drop them off at Randy's so he can install the bearings. When he's done with that, I'll bring them home and paint them, then we'll be ready to rebuild the front suspension.
Tonight I raised the rear end of the car and removed the tires and brakes from both sides. I was amazed at the condition of the brakes. The right side looked nearly new. The shoes look new and the wheel cylinder looks like it was freshly rebuilt before it was left to sit for 15 years. The left side didn't look quite as good, but still not bad.
Here's the heater box. I cleaned most of the outer cover, then
decided to send the whole thing off to Randy's to be sandblasted, which
should be much easier and faster.
Here's what it looks like on the inside. I'll take the heater
core to a radiator shop to see if it's ok. I also need to take the
radiator and oil cooler to be cleaned and checked.
This is what the right side rear brake looks like...surprisingly clean.
This is the left side rear brake...not as clean as the right, but not
bad.
This is the heat deflector inside the heater box. It's used to
redirect air to the windscreen demisters.
