Randy has all the rear end parts cleaned up and ready to be painted,
but I haven't done much to hold up my end of the deal. Between doing
taxes all week, and having to mow the lawn tonight (the one thing I dislike
about spring and summer), I haven't been able to spend much time on the
B. But I did find a source for the clips that hold the leafs together
on the rear springs. They aren't original, but I think they'll look
ok after painting. Tonight I disassembled one of the springs and
cleaned the center bolt and the small top leaf. I also put a coat
of primer on the backing plates and a couple of brackets.
This shows the center bolt in the leaf spring with one of the nuts removed.
It uses a double nut to lock down the leafs.
It's hard to see, but this shows the orientation of the leafs and the
clips. The hole in the middle of the leafs is offset toward one end.
The end that is farthest from the hole goes toward the end with the smaller
bushing hole in the longest leaf, and the rubber pads for the clips go
toward the bottom of the spring.
Another shot of the spring assembly. The teflon pads between the
leafs were pretty well worn out. My brother-in-law said there is
a place in Mt. Vernon that sells it, so I'll have to look them up.
