I don't have many pictures tonight. Although we've accomplished a lot in the past week, there isn't much that would show up on pictures. One large accomplishment is the completion of the dash, so I've included 3 pictures of it below. It really looks great! The oil pressure/water temperature gauge isn't installed in it yet, because we needed it when we tried to get oil pressure this weekend. First we connected everything to the motor (when I say "we", I really mean my brother...he's done nearly all of the engine work since it's been installed in the car), then filled it with 4 quarts of Valvoline 5W30, hooked up a battery, and started cranking it over. At first it turned slowly, but gradually it gained a little speed. But no oil pressure. So, we took the oil pressure relief valve off and poured some oil into the block in order to prime the oil pump, re-installed it, then tried again. Still no pressure, so my brother took a break from that to help me remove a spring from the rear so I could take the springs to get de-arched. When we finished with that, we looked toward the front of the car, and there was a huge pool of oil under the engine. It turned out that we didn't have the oil filter installed correctly and it was leaking. But the good news was, the oil pump must be pumping oil! So, we took the filter canister off, cleaned it up, reinstalled it, and tried cranking the motor again. Success!! The oil pressure gauge showed about 50 pounds of pressure. I think that's pretty good considering how slowing the motor is cranking over.
Today I took the leaf springs to a place in town to have them de-arched...they
should be done in a couple of days. When they return we should be
able to finish up the rear end, including installing the shocks, the fuel
tank, and the rear muffler.
Here's a shot showing the difference in the arch between the old springs
and the new springs. It's 1.5 inches, which causes the rear of the
car to sit about 4.5 inches too high.
