Again, I don't have too many pictures, but I thought I better do an update
to let everyone know we're still working on it. The entire rear suspension
is done now, after getting the springs de-arched. They are far better,
but I am worried that they are still far too stiff. I think we'll
drive it a bit to see if they settle any. We also have several of
the carpets installed and the interior is really starting to look good.
We started installing the windshield, then realized that we need to
have the fenders installed before we install the windshield. So we
left that for now and went on to other things. The fuel tank is installed,
but now I need to figure out how to mate the fuel filler tube that goes through
the rear valence with the filler tube on the tank that protrudes into the
the trunk. They are supposed to be joined by a 2.25" diameter hose,
but they are so far from being aligned that that won't work (see pictures
below). I have 2 ideas. One is to try denting the top of the
tank around one side of the filler tube to change it's angle. The other
is to cut the filler tube in the rear valence to allow a longer connecting
hose to be used, which would allow it more room to flex. One problem
with that is that this connecting hose is all that holds the filler tube
in place in the rear valence, so it needs to pull it straight in.
I also bought the tires - Michelin X-One, 185/70-14. After talking
with my brother-in-law, we decided that we'd try mounting the tires ourselves.
He has tire irons and has done it before so we'll see how it goes.
And, I have the batteries now. So all the "big" (read that "expensive")
stuff has been bought and paid for.
Here's a shot of the rear of the cockpit - my brother's been working hard
on getting the carpets put in and looking right.
And this is what it looks like in the front of the cockpit.
These next 2 shots show the underside from the rear - notice the reflections
off the fuel tank in the shiny black paint.
Here's the fuel filler tube that comes up through the trunk floor...
...and here's the problem...I'm not sure how I'm going to fix this.
